#RPGaDAY - Day 14

Every year, the hashtag #RPGaDAY makes its way around the social medias, and gamers try their damnedest to answer each question every day. Most fail. I probably will too. BUT. I will try!

Today's question: Which RPG do you prefer for open-ended campaign play?

It's hard to argue that D&D is the gold standard of epic campaign play. The very design of character progression from 1st to 20th level demands at least 20 sessions if you what to experience the 'whole she-bang'.

Then there's the genre itself. Fantasy is a genre that begs for epic story arcs, hero's journeys, and larger-than-life struggles. Sure, any genre can encompass any of these, and any other fantasy game can as well; but D&D brings it all together in a way that is familiar and accessible. It's a game built on the very notion of campaign play, with roots as deep as can be.

It's the 'easy answer', but by George, I think it may be the right one. At least for me.
